It would be rather snobbish to assert that a television appearance is a rite of passage for every debater, personally such an experience is a privilege.
23rd June was the day. Taibah International School Debate Society’s very own Victor Kamukama, Ronald Canogura and I, Daniel Nampuuma featured in NBS TV and Uganda National Students Association’s (UNSA) collaborative debate event on climate change alleviation policies.
Taibah has had quite the winning streak in various disciplines throughout the course of 2024 and we were under great expectation to add to the tally of victory.
ISBAT University’s auditorium was definitely not ready for us and every passing match up between other participants only fuelled our confidence and whetted our appetite for victory. Soon enough, our time came to face off Progressive Secondary School and make our mark.
Lights, camera, action! NBS Youth Voice’s production crew focused on the Taibah trio as it took apart Progressive’s argument. By the time our speeches ended, I could tell from the reassuring nods and snaps of the audience that we had won this one.
Besides our participation in the NBS Youth Voice initiative, I learnt the importance of realistic policies in the climate change fight. Special thanks to the Headteacher, Teacher Annet and our delegation that day – Teacher Daniel and Teacher Obed, as well as Patricia Kugonza of Year 12. Lastly, I resoundingly thank the Almighty Jesus Christ for another opportunity to glorify His name.
