TISS Head Teacher's Communication Term Two 2024

As we conclude this remarkable term, I am immensely proud and joyous reflecting on the achievements and growth we have witnessed within our school over the last twelve weeks. It is with great pleasure that I congratulate each one of us on successfully completing the term. I am always humbled to thank you our parents for your ceaseless support! In the same family spirit, allow me to extend our deep-rooted condolences to all those that lost their loved ones. Here in school, Matron Eva lost her father and Teacher Harouna lost a grandmother! We pray that the bereaved find comfort in the Lord and the departed rest in peace.

We also had moments of jubilation! Teacher Christine Pajob was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Teacher Leticia held a colourful Kuhingira, Uncle Ronald Mwanje held a memorable wedding and wedding bells await Mr. Munana this August! For all this, we give the glory to God.

The term has been particularly eventful; packed with activities and events that have not only enriched our academic curriculum but have also fostered our school’s core values of the 5C's: Confidence, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Concern for Community and Communication.

Our sports activities were a highlight, with students showing exceptional skill, teamwork and sportsmanship! I am delighted to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Chwa House for emerging as the champions! Your victory is a testament to your hard work, dedication and the spirit of excellence that defines our school. The energy and enthusiasm displayed during the sports events were truly inspiring, and it was wonderful to see so many students participating and cheering each other on.

The election of students’ leaders has been another important activity of the term. Students participated in the entire elections process: vetting, open campaigns and eventually the voting. The whole process was free and fair yet very competitive; the voting was digitalised hence there were no appeals or complaints concerning rigging! It was a true reflection of democracy! I am grateful for the maturity and resilience exhibited by all contesters! Congratulations to Sandra Kesiime of Year Twelve and Grace Mukiza of Senior five on becoming presidents of the Cambridge and UNEB compasses respectively and to all those who now hold leadership positions. We are confident that the two presidents and their respective teams will lead us to new horizons. Their work is already impressive!

I am also happy to report that classes elected their counsellors to represent their views at the school council. This innovation bridges the gap between school administration and the learners. It allows for open communication and offers a good platform for students to contribute to the running of their school.

Prom celebrations for all our candidates were very successful! Children were very elegant and both days were glamorous! Thank you for sponsoring your child! Moments like that give children wonderful memories of school; they provide an opportunity to exercise the 5Cs and inspire them to excel. The little ones are inspired to stay in school longer and stimulated into deeper creativity as they strive to make theirs even better. We have seen an improvement every year!

We are grateful to parents that always show up on the Contact Days. It’s important that students return on the agreed dates to avoid the disruption of teaching and learning. Next term, contact days will be on two days, Wednesday and Thursday and students returning on Monday at 2pm.

I am pleased to inform you that our school community in partnership with the Rotary club of Kajjansi has played a significant role in filling a gap that is of national importance. We participated in blood donation, and I am happy to inform you that a lot of the blood passed the screening tests! Thank you to all the students that donated blood; I implore them to adopt healthy meals to generate more blood for donation! The next drive will happen in October.

In addition to our local events, we had the incredible opportunity to send a group of students to China to participate in a competition focused on technological innovations. Our students excelled, bringing home not only awards, but also invaluable experiences and knowledge. Their success on an international stage is a source of immense pride and a clear indicator of the bright futures that lie ahead for them. This achievement reflects the quality of education and the nurturing environment we provide, which empowers our students to compete and succeed globally.

This term also saw our Senior Six entrepreneurship students successfully run a chicken business within the school, providing them with hands-on experience in agribusiness. This initiative not only taught them essential business skills but also gave them insights into sustainable agricultural practices. Alongside this, we had a successful conclusion of other entrepreneurship projects where students showcased their innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit. These projects have been instrumental in teaching practical business skills and fostering a culture of creativity and enterprise.

Related to the above, the leadership course for Senior Five and Year Twelve, has kicked off! Students are given an opportunity to critic historical and influential leaders as they form their own desirable leadership styles. This is in line with our school vision of producing transformational leaders for our society.

The Careers Week has been one of the enriching experiences for our candidates. They have been exposed to vast professions and their requirements and this is very instrumental in making informed decisions. Among the facilitators were some of you, our parents! Allow me to extend our appreciation to the following parents: Ms. Maria Odido, Mr. Ronald Mugabi, Ms. Juliet Kyomugisha and Mr. Vincent Agaba. Then old students Akram Lutaaya, Emmanuel Kalega and Winnie Nalubowa. Also Mr. Calvin Gidudu from British Council, Mr. Ezra Nuwenyine from the American Embassy and Mr. Simon Golola. They all gave their time and were very insightful guests. Thank you is not enough!

On school development, I am excited to inform you that we now have a functional library at the Cambridge side. Students are very excited about it and the choice of books so far stocked are very enticing to read. I am inviting you for contributions to make the library even better. Any title of book is welcome. In the same way, we have opened a second Computer Laboratory to accommodate the ever-increasing number of ICT students.

We have had very successful talks for our parents on the issue of parenting children. It’s known in Africa that raising a child is the responsibility of the community, hence our effort to achieve this was evident by organising parenting talks. As an institution, we aim at sharing expert knowledge about the growth of children. We are grateful to all the parents that showed up for these talks and we believe that this is a testament to your continued will to nurture our children even more. We hope to invite more of you for the same.

As we prepare for the last leg of the year, I am requesting you to spare some time and talk to your children about life. I am saddened that we have had some cases of bullying, theft and indecent presentations. All these can be curbed with the combined effort between school and home. Let us speak the same language encouraging compassionate, contentment, humility, hard work and morality.

Next term is a very sensitive term where we are going to sit all major examinations for all levels; Senior Four, Senior Six, Year Eleven and Year Thirteen. I am encouraging parents of all candidates to monitor their revision engagements.

Thank you once again for choosing and trusting us to be a part of your children’s educational journey. Let us continue to work together to create an environment where every student can thrive and succeed.

I wish you all a restful and enjoyable break.

Warm regards,

ANNET NANNYONJO

Head Teacher
